THANKS, TRUCKERS: THE HEART AND SOUL OF THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY

No matter where you’re traveling, you’re likely to see truckers on the road delivering goods. Roads and highways are packed with trucks of all types heading to their next drop-off.

If you drive a car, you might be bothered by all those trucks in your way. And if you’re an environmentalist, you might have concerns about these gas-guzzling behemoths. Regardless, they keep our way of life afloat.

It’s true that we rely on these truckers to keep our infrastructure and economy running, but they’re also the foundation of our communities. They deliver the goods we need to keep our fast-paced lives going. Without truckers, the economy would come to a screeching halt.

THE IMPACT OF TRUCK DRIVERS IN THE UNITED STATES

Without truck drivers keeping transport going, the United States and the global economy would crash. Trucking is a huge business in the United States, accounting for 70% of all freight transportation.

U.S. truckers drive more than 430 billion miles and carry over 10 billion tons of freight each year. With population growth, greater consumption of goods, and increased demand from e-commerce and online shopping, these numbers will continue to rise into the foreseeable future.

HOW MANY TRUCKERS ARE THERE IN THE UNITED STATES?

In the United States, there are around 3.5 million truck drivers, and roughly 9 million people work in the trucking sector as a result. That’s an impressive 7%, and the percentage is even higher if government jobs are included.

TRUCKING IS MUCH HARDER THAN IT LOOKS

Many people overlook how much truck drivers are willing to give up to ensure the economy keeps running. They are frequently away from their homes and families for extended periods of time.

In the United States, there are on average 500,000 accidents each year. That is certainly a large number, but it is only a third of the percentage of accidents with just cars. Truck drivers, on the other hand, are only responsible for 16% of vehicle accidents. While their job is riskier than conventional driving, truckers take extra precautions to keep us safe, and these numbers reflect that.

Trucking is much more dangerous than people consider, but it’s a risk they’re willing to take to ensure the economy keeps running.

CONCLUSION: THANK YOU TRUCKERS

Supply chain operations depend on the shipments from one place or another – mostly by road. The supply chain, therefore, requires a significant investment of time and resources.

The driving force behind so many logistical problems is a failure to comprehend, or even appreciate, the people behind the wheel of trucks. Too frequently, the movement of products is consigned to the duty of calling a trucking firm to pick up and deliver the items without any knowledge or understanding for those who drive them.

Thank those who take up the responsibilities and risks of being a truck driver.

We often take the people who make a supply chain possible for granted. We should be thankful to truckers for all they do for us. The trucking industry plays a vital role in the United States and its economy and is the lifeblood of global trade.

That is why at Journey, we greatly appreciate all those who allow us to deliver good across the world

Thank you, truckers, for everything you do!
